A UV wall printer for interior designers
Interior designers specify finishes that make a space distinct. A UV wall printer lets a studio produce one-off wall art from its own designs rather than choosing from a wallpaper catalog. This page covers the projects designers print, how direct printing compares with wallpaper and murals, which models fit studio work and what owning a printer involves.

Who this is for
Residential and commercial interior design studios, decorators and hospitality designers who create custom artwork for clients and want control over how it is produced. It also suits studios that work with a regular painter or installer who could operate the machine.
A printer makes most sense for studios that repeatedly design feature walls and want to stop waiting on third-party print vendors and wallpaper lead times.
Projects interior designers print
- One-off feature walls
- A single statement wall in a living room, bedroom or lobby, printed from the designer's own artwork.
- Children's and nursery rooms
- Illustrated murals on painted drywall, easy to repaint when the child outgrows them.
- Hospitality interiors
- Restaurants, boutique hotels and cafés, often on brick, wood paneling or tile.
- Wood, panels and doors
- Printed grain effects, patterns or artwork on wood surfaces and doors.
- Glass partitions
- Decorative patterns on office and residential glass, with a primer where needed.
- Floors
- Rugs-in-print, patterns and inlaid effects on models listed for floors.
Why direct-to-wall instead of wallpaper
Custom wallpaper locks the design into roll widths, needs a smooth surface and leaves seams to match. A printer puts the artwork on the surface itself, in any proportion the wall allows, with no seams. It works on brick, wood, tile and plaster that wallpaper cannot cover cleanly.
Compared with commissioning a hand-painted mural, printing reproduces your exact file — color, scale and detail — so the client sees the approved render on the wall. Designers who want a hand-finished look can still combine a printed base with painted details.
Design workflow
Designers work in the tools they already use: the printer accepts PSD, AI, EPS, PDF, TIFF and common image formats. Prepare files at the final wall dimensions, confirm color with a small test print on the actual surface, then print the full wall. Owning the machine lets a studio offer revisions and refreshes on its own schedule.
How studios charge for printed walls
Design studios usually bill printed walls in one of two ways: as a design fee plus a per-square-foot or per-square-meter print charge, or as a fixed price per wall that covers artwork, preparation and printing. Revisions, test prints on the client's actual surface and any clear-coat finish are normally itemized.
Owning a printer also changes timelines. Instead of ordering custom wallpaper and waiting on production, the studio schedules the print once the surface is ready and the client signs off on the render. That control is often the main reason studios buy rather than outsource.
Keep a small library of printed samples on the surfaces you specify most — painted drywall, wood, tile and glass — so clients can see color and texture before approving a design. Ask for a mailed sample print or a custom demo video of your own artwork before you buy.
