Consumables, as cost-per-square-metre categories
Consumables scale with printed area, not with hours, so the useful unit is cost per square metre. We do not publish dollar figures for them because they depend on your coverage and surface mix — request current consumable pricing with your quote and you will get real numbers for the model you are buying.
UV ink
Consumed per printed square metre. Heavy coverage and a white underbase use noticeably more than a light design on a pale wall. Request current ink pricing with your quote.
Cleaning fluid & printhead care
Used at every start-up and shut-down, and the single biggest factor in printhead life. Budget it as a fixed weekly cost rather than a per-job one.
Primer & varnish
Only needed on some surfaces — glossy glass, polished metal, or exterior work that wants a protective top coat. Cost per square metre, applied by hand.
Transport
Fuel and vehicle wear getting the cases to and from client sites, plus parking or access costs on commercial jobs.
Other startup costs
- Vehicle. Most operators use a van or SUV they already own or lease; the machine breaks down into cases for transport.
- Insurance. Basic general-liability policies commonly run $40–$80 per month for small service businesses.
- Business licence. Cost and requirements are set by your state and city.
- Design software. A subscription to a vector and raster editor, or a freelance designer you pay per job.
- Local marketing. A simple website, a Google Business Profile, and a portfolio of sample prints on boards you can carry into a walk-through.

The recurring categories are UV ink, cleaning fluid and primer or varnish where a surface needs it. All three are best thought of as a cost per printed square metre, because they scale with coverage rather than with time. Amounts depend on your job mix, so request current consumable pricing with your quote rather than working from a published average.
What does a replacement printhead cost?
A replacement Epson I1600 printhead is $1,500. Printhead life depends on how consistently the machine is cleaned and purged, particularly on the white channel, since the Hypermural models are not fitted with a white-ink circulation system.
What startup costs are there beyond the machine?
Plan for a vehicle able to carry the cases, general-liability insurance (basic policies commonly run $40–$80 per month for small service businesses), a business licence in your state or city, and design software. How fast does a wall printer print?
Production speed on the Hypermural models is roughly 25 minutes per square metre — about 2.4 m² per hour — printing CMYK at normal quality. A white underbase on a dark or transparent surface adds time on top of that. Use your own measured speed, not a headline figure, when you plan a day's work.
