A UV wall printer for contractors, remodelers and painters

Contractors, remodelers and commercial painters are already on site when the walls are finished. A UV wall printer lets the same crew deliver the printed mural, logo wall or feature graphic the client would otherwise buy from a separate vendor. This page explains the jobs, the comparison with wallpaper and hand painting, which models fit site work and what to budget.

    Who this is for

General contractors handling office, retail and hospitality fit-outs; residential remodelers working on kitchens, basements and children's rooms; and commercial painting companies that already prepare and finish walls. These businesses control the schedule and the surface preparation, which is the part of wall printing that most affects the result.

It suits crews that are regularly asked for “something on that wall” and currently pass the job to a muralist, a sign shop or a wallpaper installer.

    Jobs contractors and painters sell

    Fit-out feature walls
Branded walls in offices, clinics and retail units, printed after the final paint coat on drywall or plaster.
    Residential murals
Children's rooms, home offices, basements and entryways, typically one wall per room.
    Hospitality interiors
Restaurants, cafés and hotels, on painted block, brick, wood paneling or tile.
    Exterior walls
Concrete and brick building faces; printers are listed as suitable for both indoor and outdoor work.
    Gyms and schools
Large motivational or wayfinding graphics on painted block walls.
    Tile and kitchen backsplashes
Printed designs on ceramic tile in kitchens, bathrooms and pool areas.

Why direct-to-wall instead of wallpaper or hand painting

Custom wallpaper needs ordering, lead time, a flat smooth surface and careful pattern matching. It is unsuited to block, brick and textured plaster. Direct UV printing goes onto those surfaces as they are, with no seams and nothing to peel later.

Hand-painted murals are slow and depend on the artist's availability. A printer reproduces the approved design exactly from the file, which makes client sign-off simpler: what they approve on screen is what goes on the wall. Painters often combine the two — rolling base colors by hand and printing the detailed artwork.

Fitting printing into the job schedule

The printer works on a finished, cured surface, so it slots in after the last paint coat and before furniture and fixtures arrive. It stands in front of the wall on its rail, so clear floor space along the wall is needed. Ultrasonic sensing on models such as the Vertiq Nova corrects for wall unevenness. Bring the printer in at the same stage as any finish trade and quote the print as a line item on the fit-out.

Pricing printed walls on a fit-out

Contractors usually price a printed wall as a separate line item rather than folding it into paint. Common methods are per square foot or square meter, a fixed price per feature wall, or a design-and-print package when the client has no artwork. Add a minimum for small rooms and a charge for any extra surface preparation.

Quoting the print with the fit-out lets the client approve the artwork during design and keeps the schedule in your hands. Base rates on what local muralists, sign shops and wallpaper installers charge for comparable work, and on your own time on site. Vertiq publishes no income or return figures for any operator.

Before committing, print a test patch on each surface type you expect — fresh paint, block, brick and tile — so you can show clients a real finish and understand the preparation each one needs.

What to budget beyond the machine

    Ink
CMYK + White UV ink typically costs $0.40–$6.70 per square meter, depending on coverage and white ink. A set of 5 × 500 ml bottles is $175.
    Printheads

    Laptop and software
Control software is included. You need a laptop to run it and design tools for artwork; requirements are confirmed with your quote.
    Transport
A vehicle that fits the machine's cases or wheeled base, plus time for travel and setup on site.
    Business basics
Insurance, a business license and surface-preparation materials such as primer and clear coat, depending on your jobs and location.
